Joe Woodward, at Poets and Writers<\/em>, explores the narrated-by-critters genre, which (he notes) started with George Orwell’s Animal Farm<\/em><\/a> and in the past few years has grown to include Timbuktu<\/em>, by Paul Auster<\/a>; Mitz: The Marmoset of Bloomsbury<\/em>, by Sigrid Nunez<\/a>; and The Autobiography of Foudini M. Cat<\/em>, Susan Fromberg Schaeffer<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Woodward then goes on to review this year’s newest additions, Timothy; or, Notes of an Abject Reptile<\/em>, Verlyn Klinkenborg<\/a> (February, Knopf) and Firmin: Adventures of a Metropolitan Lowlife<\/em>, Sam Savage<\/a> (next month, Coffee House Press).<\/p>\n
