I have a skunk story, which was actually my brother Gary’s skunk story. A couple of summer’s ago, Gary was resting on a blanket behind his house in Norwich, NY, and fell asleep in the late afternoon. He awoke to the sensation of something licking his fingers (which were probably sticky from a throat lozenge he had touched earlier). He opened his eyes and watched a skunk licking his fingers! He and the skunk looked at each other. Gary whispered to the skunk, “You aren’t going to spray me, are you?” and the skunk ran away!
Wow!
This just reminded me of another skunk story! This was years ago–when I was in Girl Scouts. My troop was on a weekend camping trip. We were sleeping in a platform tent at one of the GS campgrounds. There were four of us in my tent, and one morning, we woke to find a skunk in our tent! He’d raided the stash of candy one of us had brought along. No more Cadbury bars! lol
We watched him for awhile — too nervous to do anything but whisper and wait — finally he slipped under the edge of the tent and was gone.
It’s funny because my memory is that he was huge. The size of a small sheep. But most likely he was a normal-sized skunk — he just took up a lot of room in that tent!
