I learned about reviews from an experience trying to purchase a digital camera.  I got the classic &quot;Bait and Switch&quot; routine, and had to cancel my order when it became obvious that unless I purchased a bunch of overpriced accessories, my camera would be forever &quot;backordered.&quot;  There were a number of retailer reviews that warned of this experience, but about 5 times as many GLOWING reviews of that merchant.  SO glowing that they HAD to be &quot;plants&quot; of just fakes.  I was lucky to learn the lesson without spending a bunch of wasted money.
