This webpage contains a good example of numerous bogus Amazon reviews. Considering the number of books Amazon sells, I’d say it deserves more than a yawn.

Oh, goodie! Another “chicken or egg” controversy!

I learned about reviews from an experience trying to purchase a digital camera. I got the classic “Bait and Switch” routine, and had to cancel my order when it became obvious that unless I purchased a bunch of overpriced accessories, my camera would be forever “backordered.” There were a number of retailer reviews that warned of this experience, but about 5 times as many GLOWING reviews of that merchant. SO glowing that they HAD to be “plants” of just fakes. I was lucky to learn the lesson without spending a bunch of wasted money.
